On Tuesday, November 11, we will be transporting our K-5 students from RBS Elementary and Westside Elementary to Lafayette to watch the Veterans Day Parade. The parade route takes it by our elementary schools in Lafayette, so busing them is not necessary. This is the same practice as last year, but this year the weather is going to be much cooler. The forecasted temperature has a high of 49 degrees, but the parade is at 11:30 so it will be cooler than that.
While we want our elementary students to be able to watch the parade, we will leave the choice to attend up to parents or guardians. If you would like your child not to watch the parade due to the weather, please let your child's school know before the 11th. Those students at RBS and Westside will remain at their school, and the elementary students in Lafayette will remain indoors.
While we are only busing our elementary students, our other students are free to leave school with a parent to watch it with no attendance penalty, but they must return to school afterwards. Students wishing to leave with parents to watch the parade can do so at 10:45. We feel very strongly that our younger children need to learn about the sacrifices these individuals have made to guarantee the freedoms we now enjoy.

Due to the number of double bus routes for Friday afternoon, November 7th, and the timeline of potential severe weather impacting our area, Macon County Schools will dismiss at 1:30 pm on Friday. This will hopefully allow bus drivers to complete all routes before severe weather hits. Macon County Schools appreciates your understanding in this decision.

On Thursday, October 30th, RBS Elementary pledged to be drug-free during our Red Ribbon Week celebration! Every student added their name to a red chain—329 links long!—that now shines through the halls of RBS Elementary as a reminder to make healthy choices. We capped it all off with the ultimate Glow Party—music, dancing, and tons of smiles! A huge shoutout to the Macon Health Dept, Macon Hospital, and the Macon Prevention Coalition for helping make this unforgettable day possible.

Calvary Baptist Christmas backpack program Calvary Baptist Church – located at 6851 Highway 52 East in Lafayette – will once again be participating in its Christmas backpack program. The church will be giving away backpacks for children ages 2-17 who are in need of one of the backpacks, which contain a variety of essential supplies. Those backpacks will be given away on the morning of Dec. 13, following a light breakfast that will be provided and a Christmas program held at the church. The children and their families are invited to the program, which typically lasts approximately an hour. Interested individuals must register by Dec. 6.
