Through a special partnership between the Tennessee Department of Education and the Governorā€™s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF), Macon County School District is excited to offer our preā€K through 5 families free access to Ready4K, a researchā€based text messaging program, that will help you continue your childā€™s learning at home. Families are juggling a lot right now, and on top of that, you are working hard to help your children keep learning despite an unprecedented couple of years. We are excited about Read4K because it provides a unique and simple opportunity for you to help support your childā€™s learning: Delivers three texts weekly with fun facts and tips to provide you with simple, engaging tips to help your child continue to learn while at home. The messages match each childā€™s age, even if you have more than one child. Ready4K tips build on your daily routines, like getting dressed, bath time or preparing a meal. We want to help bridge the gap between the classroom and the home and help ensure your child is learning no matter where they are. Parents should start receiving texts within the next few weeks. If any parent receives the texts that would like to opt-out, please see the directions on the attached flyer. If any parent does not receive the texts within the next few weeks and would like to be added, please send an email to hessonc@maconcountyschools.org. Attached, youā€™ll find a 1ā€pager and FAQ with additional information.

****K-2 PARENTS**** In partnership with Governorā€™s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF), the department is opening up an opportunity for parents to order free at-home reading resources this winter for any of their children in grades K-2. Through this partnership, the department and GELF want to encourage at-home reading practice to help young learners become stronger readers outside of the classroom. Based on if a child is in kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade, they will receive seven At-Home Decodable Book Series, which contain 20+ exciting stories full of sounds and words to practice, and age-appropriate, high-quality books from Scholastic. All Tennessee families can order one booklet pack for each of their kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students using this site, https://readingresources.mybrightsites.com/ This launch is part of the family component of the stateā€™s Reading 360 initiative to help boost strong reading skills amongst Tennessee students.
