The official groundbreaking for the new elementary school was held on Friday, September 5th, 2025. This project coming to reality has been a dream for several years. The building contains approximately 150,000 sq ft and will house grades 3-5. The anticipated building timeline is 22 months, and students are expected to begin attending the school in the Fall of 2027. Those in attendance for the groundbreaking included members of the Macon County Board of Education, County Mayor Steve Jones, City of Lafayette Mayor Tony Day, Patrick James and other staff from USDA, Rep. Kelly Keisling, Mr. Van Hillary, Upland Design Firm, American Constructors, Mid-Tenn Engineering, Raymond James, and representatives from the offices of Senator Bill Hegerty and Congressman John Rose’s offices. The Macon County School System would like to thank them for their attendance today and for their assistance in this process.
